France’s Macron seeks parliamentary majority to implement reforms
French voters return to the polls on Sunday for parliamentary elections. Thousands of candidates from across the political spectrum are running for the 577 seats.
President Emmanuel Macron, who won the presidential election in May, needs to win a majority of seats to be able to push ahead with his reforms.
Half of the candidates running for his Republic on the Move (REM) party are not career politicians, which is part of the young president’s promise to bring politics closer to the people.
