India : Five farmers shot dead during protest

Farmers in India are blocking highways as they demand change in the agriculture industry.
Thousands of farmers commit suicide each year because of debt, poor crop yields, and competition from cheap imports.
Five farmers were shot dead by police in recent demonstrations and a union leader has now been arrested.

  1. Farmers in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh & Rajasthan are protesting because they are demanding farm loan waivers like the farmers of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi & Tamil Nadu and are also protesting against the injustice of the WTO system. Though no other farmers from any part in the world except in India get subsidy on all key inputs such as seeds, water, electricity, equipment etc and price support on output such as in India.
