US vetoes resolution on Trump’s Jerusalem decision

The United States has vetoed a UN Security Council draft resolution rejecting the recent recognition by US President Donald Trump of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and his plans to move the American embassy to the city.

The US veto on Monday was widely expected.

“What is troublesome to some people […] is that the United States had the courage and honesty to recognise a fundamental reality,” Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the UN, said.

“Jerusalem has been the political, cultural, and spiritual homeland of the Jewish people for thousands of years – they have had no other capital city,” she continued.

Al Jazeera’s Mike Hanna reports.

  1. The so-called 30 year old Peace plan has been the biggest scam and farce this world has ever known. There will never be a final Peace plan , only paper shuffling. It is about time a US president moves forward with a decision that makes Palestinians react and act quickly. The Arab world has been holding the Palestinians hostage for decades now. This decision will get them off their Lazy- Boy and start moving forward….

  2. you are proud of america, his arrogant people self-esteem and others. You are just the strongest in the world. The wealth from robbing people like iraq, syrian, libya.USA enough criteria to become a demon country

  3. UN put a stop to USA bullying 2nd USA sells weapons to overseas to start wars than gives UN money to help bring peace so nicke where was USA Jewish country was burying down

  4. I thought America was founded on a democratic system and cares about democracy spreading to those middle Eastern countries?

So why then is it behaving like a dictator???

Why is it preventing the UN from acting upon a democratic system by threatening to cut aid to poor countries????

If you don't like democracy when it doesn't go your way then don't go round killing people to spread democracy to their countries.

One of the fundamental principles of Democracy is that everyone has a Vote and All votes are Equal and NO One (nation or person) has more of a say/value then anyone else.

Yet America vetoed the UN resolution that really mattered.

Apparently Democracy is only for the West to get their own way. The rest of us have to do as we are told.
