Sick children in Venezuela are dying because hospitals cannot get medical supplies or afford to maintain equipment.
Infant mortality rates are up 30 percent, as the country struggles with hyperinflation and food shortages.
Meanwhile, the government says the scale of the crisis has been overstated and is rejecting offers of humanitarian aid.

Al Jazeera’s Lucia Newman reports from Caracas.

  1. WOU WOU WOU, STOP RIGHT THERE!! LISTEN TO THE PRO VENEZUELA SOCIALIST FOLKS AND THEY WILL TELL YOU THERE IS NO humanitarian emergency !!! Just listen to them cuz they know better then AL JAZEERA!!! We don't need to help these folks at all!! Everything is fine down there!!! Just listen to Madero and his army!!! JUST LET THE CHILDREN DIE!!!!

  2. 20-30 years back, the Global Lefts were going crazy about the free(almost free) public health care facilities of Venezuela.
This is what happens when freebies comes to an end. Get off the utopian idea the communist socialists advertise all over the world.
    There's no free lunch.

  3. The children dying in hospitals due to lack of even the most basic medicine is mentioned in a new e-book called The Maduro Diet: How three-quarters of adults in Venezuela lost an average of 19 pounds in 2016

  4. America is trying to distroy the Americas . I am really happy to make part of BRICS. May God protect Brasil against American imperialists , they are making a mess of this world . Everywhere they are involved , have economic essues , they bring nothing but corruption and suffering with them selves.

  5. I tell you something, my father died 2 weeks ago after suffering a stomach infarction and intestinal, was 3 days suffering severe pain in the abdomen we took to different hospitals only received maltreatment, transferred it from one hospital to another and all paid for my and my relatives since there are no ambulances in the capital Caracas my father died on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 in the waiting room of the university hospital of Caracas never attended me nor a saline solution I was put since I was dehydrated and I needed it but I never received it after more than 12 hours of waiting for medical attention my father died on a stretcher of a respiratory arrest … that is my reality and the reality of millions of Venezuelans at this moment … if you pitifully get sick you have a high degree of chances of dying that is venezuela and the Bolivarian revolution at the moment, I share this with you so that you have in mind to Venezuela and its people that we are people a very hard worker who is being oppressed by a silent and harmful dictatorship which does not forgive gender or social class. thank you and good afternoon.

  6. socialists don't care about how many people die

so long their influence and power remains strong

    need more proof?

they ALWAYS take and NEVER give

how much $$$ they donate to the poor?

there's a reason why most socialists end up millionaires or even billionaires like Chavez's daughters.

  7. This is really sad. I hope Venezuela gets the help and change it needs soon, but not from the US. The US is not Latin America's friend but rather it's coloniser

  8. The report you refer to mentions the difference in the number of infants who died between the current report and the last year.
It does not however mention the number of total births in the country. Without being able to compare the total number of births to the number of fatalities you cannot arrive at the infant mortality rate. All you have is the variation in number of deaths.
For instance if births are up by 30% and the number of infant mortality's is up by 30% then there is no increase in the infant mortality rate.
